This Is the Reason Gillian Anderson Speaks With Both an English and an American Accent

Though many of us were first introduced to Gillian Anderson as the American FBI special agent Dana Scully in The X Files , over the years the actor has made a name for herself as a go-to girl for BBC period dramas. From Bleak House to Great Expectations and War and Peace , she has no trouble with the cut glass accent that's required to play a succession of aristocratic matriarchs. And the same goes for her most recent role: playing Margaret Thatcher in season 4 of Netflix's The Crown. So what's the story? Is she just an American who's very good at accents, or is Gillian Anderson actually a Brit? The answer is that she's a little bit of both! Anderson was born in Chicago, but her parents moved to London (via a short stint in Puerto Rico) after her birth. She lived in England until she was 11, so many of her formative years were spent here. The family returned to the US, settling in Grand Rapids, Michigan , but Gillian still spent her summers in London, and she ...

Even Here in the UK, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's Win Is a Symbol of Hope and Change

Saturday, 7 Nov., 2020, will be a day that goes down in the history books regardless of what country you live in. It's the day that Joe Biden became the 46th President of the United States of America and when Kamala Harris, a woman of colour and child of immigrants, became the Vice President of America, putting an end to four years of a Donald Trump presidency. Even here in the UK, the election process in the US was anxiety-inducing as we watched the votes slowly trickle in and waited for mail-in votes to be counted in key swing states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin that would ultimately switch the conversation once and for all. We saw how the tireless efforts of Stacey Abrams - a woman who lost the 2018 election for Georgia governor due to voter suppression - helped flip Georgia for the Democrats for the first time in over 30 years, a win that owes a tremendous amount of gratitude to women of colour. According to the New York Times exit polls , 91 percent of Bl...

The Royal Family Reunite For the Annual Remembrance Day Service in London

On 8th Nov., the royal family came together for the annual Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in London. With many of the royal family's public events cancelled this year due to the coronanvirus pandemic, Remembrance Sunday marks the first time we've seen the Queen and the other members together since the Commonwealth Day service in March 2020 . Held on the second Sunday of November each year, Remembrance Sunday is a time for people to honour those who have suffered and died at war. For the first time in history, the service itself took place behind closed doors this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the royal family still took part in the two minutes of silence followed by wreath-laying at the foot of the Cenotaph - an annual tradition that this year was closed to the public and rather broadcast live, with people encouraged to take part in the two-minute silence at home. During the socially-distanced ceremony, Prince William, Princess Anne, and the Earl...

The Joker and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo actors met on the set of Her in 2013 and kept their relationship very low-key until becoming engaged in May 2019. Although the pair did not announce their pregnancy, it was confirmed by the public when Mara was seen with a baby bump in early 2020. According to Sky , the news of baby River's birth and naming was announced by director Viktor Kossakovsky during the Zurich Film Festival while promoting the film Gunda , on which Phoenix is an executive producer. "He just got a baby, by the way, his name was. . .a beautiful son called River, so he cannot promote [the film] right now." Photographic Proof That Kate Moss and Nikolai von Bismarck Are One Very Stylish Couple

Kate Moss and photographer Nikolai von Bismarck began quietly dating in 2016, a year after Kate ended her marriage to rocker Jamie Hince.
