Tilda Swinton Discusses ‘Suspiria’ at Haider Ackermann

HIDDEN MESSAGE: Guests at the Haider Ackermann show were asked to tiptoe around a white chalk drawing on the floor of the Palais de Tokyo. “My name is on the floor!” marveled jewelry designer Delfina Delettrez, who immediately took a picture with her phone. Model Farida Khelfa noted with dismay that hers was half wiped off. She has a role in Jean Paul Gaultier’s “Fashion Freak Show” at the Folies Bergères, but one that doesn’t require her to be on stage. “I play Dominique, the woman who helped him start in the business when he was very young. But it’s a filmed sequence.” Sitting next to an elaborate “Tilda and Sandro” drawing, Tilda Swinton discussed the importance of color in her upcoming film, a remake of Dario Argento’s horror movie “Suspiria” directed by Luca Guadagnino out Nov. 2. She plays Madame Blanc, a teacher at the Markos dance academy in Berlin. “All of us are affected by the colors we wear,” said Swinton, adding that Madame Blanc’s outfits are a variation of orange, brown,

Paris Opera Ballet Kickstarts Season With Audience Participation

YOU CAN DANCE: Audience participation is not usually part of the deal when you go to the ballet, but the opening gala of the season at the Paris Opera set out to shake up traditions. Guests were invited to join the Paris Opera Ballet on stage at the ornate Palais Garnier, where they were led by dancers to perform a waltz. In their colorful evening dresses, the untrained participants stood out from the sea of tuxedo-clad dancers. “We weren’t given any indications whatsoever,” said music producer Pedro Winter, who was the only male picked to go on stage. “The dancers guided me through touch and by maintaining constant eye contact. It turned out to be pretty instinctive in the end. You just let go.” It was all part of Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin’s “Decadanse,” an electrifying performance featuring 31 dancers. The first act, an energetic group choreography to the tune of Goldfrapp’s “Black Cherry,” gave an indication of the unusual evening to come. Russian prima ballerina Diana Vish

Roxanne Mesquida, Paz Vega Talk Science Fiction at Elie Saab

STRANGE ENCOUNTERS: The leading ladies sitting front row at Elie Saab may have been dolled up for the occasion, but their latest acting jobs are of a more alien kind. Roxanne Mesquida said she had lots of fun shooting the Steven Soderbergh-produced series “Now Apocalypse,” due out in April. “It’s about aliens…I play an astro-biological theorist who is French and not very nice and very promiscuous,” said the actress, in town for her next movie project under first-time director Arnaud Valois. “It was very hard for me to learn all the specific technical terms,” she laughed. Paz Vega’s latest project is of a similar genre. The Spanish actress stars in the second season of the Netflix series “The OA.” She was keeping mum about the details, but said: “It’s like science fiction and metaphysics, a bit like ‘Stranger Things’ but for adults. It’s very good.” Other guests at the show included Marina Hands, Béatrice Martin, aka Coeur de Pirate, Larsen Thompson and Gaia Weiss. Follow WWD on Twitter

Virgil Abloh Hosts Pop-up Store Teasing Ikea Collaboration

PARIS — Guests kept an eye on their brand new Ikea x Virgil Abloh rugs, propped up against the edge of the dance floor at the Nuits Fauves, a club located on the ground level of the Cité de la Mode. Part of the designer’s collaboration with Swedish retailer Ikea was available to purchase at an exclusive pop-up store on Friday evening, a full year before the official launch of the “Markerad” collection. The “Blue,” “Grey,” “Keep Off” and “Still Loading” rugs had been posted by Abloh on his Instagram account a couple of days before the event. The four rugs, priced from 79 euros to 229 euros, were presented in a custom exhibition space. The “Blue” rug, which is actually red, was fastened to the ceiling of a tiny cubicle, while the “Still Loading” one was mounted on an easel. Unsurprisingly the stock allocated for the evening cleared out fast, and guests were already speculating about the resell prices. The pop-up store would reopen the whole following day, ending at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Pi

Carla Bruni Performs at Naked Hearts Charity Event

ANOTHER ONE, PLEASE: The French charm extended beyond the cuisine for guests at the Golf for Good charity gala dinner in Paris — they were also treated to a performance by famed local Carla Bruni. Accompanied by a piano player and a cellist, the model-turned-singer and former First Lady of France strummed delicately on her guitar as she sang her hit “Someone Told Me” in the foyer of the restaurant Boeuf Sur le Toit, or Ox on the Roof, which is named after a song featured in a Jean Cocteau ballet. But as she sang, filling the room with her voice that relays a distinct brand of intimacy, one couldn’t help but think the place might be renamed Ballad in the Bedroom. When the song was over, someone in the crowd called out. “Another one, another one!” The historic Paris cabaret bar has, over the years, shifted from a watering hole for the avant-garde to a chic dining spot, and instead of dancers it was flooded with an international crowd of models, businessmen and socialites for the Place Ve

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Get Cozy at ‘The Favourite’ After Party

At 7 p.m. today in Houston, Taylor Swift will be taking the stage at NRG Stadium to perform one of the final shows of her “Reputation” tour. But at 1:41 a.m. this morning, Swift was nestled in a banquette seat inside New York’s Tavern on the Green, sitting next to her boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Alwyn was celebrating the premiere of the film “The Favourite,” which screened at Lincoln Center Friday night to usher in the New York Film Festival. Members of the cast and crew — including Emma Stone, Nicholas Hoult, Olivia Colman and director Yorgos Lanthimos — started the evening on the red carpet, attended a screening of the film, then ended up at the tony restaurant located on Central Park’s west side. The evening may have begun with a celebration of the new movie, but Swift’s surprise arrival changed the whole vibe of the thing. Suddenly, she appeared inside the main dining room and a small frenzy ensued. “Where is she?” one young woman asked frantically. “She’s right there!” her friend respond

New Nike Collaborators Sarah Andelman, Martine Rose and Yoon Ahn Turn Out to Support Female Athletes

GOOD SPORTS: Nike was in good company for its Paris presentation celebrating its female athletes, with in attendance a number of football athletes and the eight track and field stars who walked in the Off-White show on Thursday, including Vashti Cunningham, Cecilia Yeung, Sam Kerr and Yuki Nagasato. Joining the sports brand at the event on Friday, a nod to the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2019 in Paris next June, were three new collaborators: former Colette creative director Sarah Andelman, men’s wear designer Martine Rose, and Yoon Ahn, cofounder of Ambush and jewelry designer at Dior Men. On display were some of the shoes from the Off-White show as well Nike DNA archive products, including soccer jerseys and running products.
