The 17 Best Shampoos for Every Hair Type

When it comes to choosing the best shampoo for your needs, think about the way you shop for skincare products. Just like someone with oily skin wouldn’t reach for a heavy moisturizer, someone with curls shouldn’t suds up with a shampoo for straight locks. It’s all about shopping for your hair type and condition to get the best results. “Before choosing the best shampoo for your hair type it’s important to understand your hair type and texture,” says Jamie Wiley, Pureology Global Artistic Director. “Ask yourself if your hair strands are fine, medium or thick and then whether your texture is wavy, straight, curly, thick, dry, and/or color treated. Knowing which category you fall into will help determine what shampoo and conditioner you should take home. Choosing the right shampoo is important for everyone and figuring out what works best for your hair.” How to find the best shampoo for your hair type Fine hair tends to have more buildup on the scalp, so it requires a shampoo that has a d

Today’s formulas can help you nail that your-skin-but-better look. “Foundation is literally the foundation of your makeup,” says Annie Lawless, Founder of Lawless Beauty. “It evens out your skin tone, softens texture, and provides a beautiful, seamless canvas for the rest of your makeup application. When you apply foundation, you often find you need to wear less makeup overall because your skin looks much more unified in tone and perfected.” The different types of foundation There’s truly a foundation for every skin type and budget. WWD Webinar Spotlights Role of RFID in BOPIS, Omnichannel Retailing

The global pandemic has forced seismic changes across the entire value chain of the retail industry. Evolving demands and shifts in how consumers shop have forced merchants and brands to reconfigure their business in a truly integrated and seamless way. Consumer preferences for curbside pickup and buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) is adding additional pressure on retailers and brands who are also figuring out how to use products on store shelves to fulfill online orders. All of which requires brands and merchants to have absolute visibility into their inventory. [Use this link to learn more and register for this Oct. 6 digital event.] It’s within this context, that WWD presents a digital event, titled, “How Item-Level RFID Provides Significant Value for Retailers By Improving Inventory Accuracy” on Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. EST. The 15 Best Curling Irons, According to Experts

Amidst all the beauty products rolling onto the market, a new curling iron seems nice to have, but not necessarily a must. But that’s not exactly the case, as the magic of a good curling iron is largely in its results. With a curling iron, “you’ll always have a way to look good quickly,” says Leigh Hardges, hairstylist at Maxine Salon in Chicago. “It’s a pretty fast way to enhance body in the hair and create lift around your face.” And, it’s worth investing in one that works well, which “will show in the smoothness and overall polished style of the hair,” notes Alex Brown, who’s also a hairstylist in Chicago. What to look for in the best curling irons For starters, the size of the barrel is one of the most important things to take into consideration. “The right size all depends on the density of your hair,” she says. “The smaller the barrel, the tighter of a curl it will be. If you have thick hair, you’ll want something that’s a little bigger in size so you’re not spending so much time

The 20 Best Foundations for Oily Skin, According to Experts

If you have oily skin, this is probably an all too common scenario: You leave the house with your foundation flawlessly applied. Just a few hours later, it’s melting and moving around— and not just during the summer. Yes, oily skin is hereditary, but some foundations can actually exacerbate the situation by clogging pores and triggering even more oil production. That’s why using one of the best foundations for oily skin can keep your base in place and T-zone in check. We spoke to two beauty experts and celebrity makeup artists, Jillian Dempsey and Neil Scibelli, to get their recommendations on the best foundations for oily skin along with application tips and tricks. What to look for in the best foundations for oily skin “Dimethicone, a silicone derivative, is a key ingredient in a lot of mattifying makeup and skin-care products,” Scibelli says. “It creates a sealant quality over the pores, which helps to slow down the production of oil. It also fills them in to create the appearance o

The brand was chosen by the Saudi Fashion Commission to participate in the Saudi 100 Brands program and is now positioning itself for an international expansion. Blackpink’s Jisoo, Elizabeth Debicki and Rosamund Pike on Dior’s Starry Front Row

In the blink of an eye, the fashion frenzy is back. Hundreds of spectators lined the walk of the Tuileries outside of the Dior show Tuesday, the first big calendar event of the week. Most were angling to get a glimpse of Jisoo, a member of the K-pop girl group Blackpink, whose fans are called “blinks.” The excitement didn’t dissipate inside the show, as she was flanked by bodyguards and several camera crews. The superstar singer introduced herself to LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s Antoine Arnault and Natalia Vodianova, and said while she has attended Dior shows before, she felt like being in Paris was special, speaking to the couple through an interpreter. All the excitement didn’t go unnoticed by other guests. “That’s a whole thing, what is happening?!?” wondered Elizabeth Debicki while watching the action. “I just love how big Korean pop stars are, it’s incredible. And look how confident she is. I could take some lessons,” she joked. “The Crown” star said it was a bit surreal to

The 20 Best Hair Dryers for Every Hair Type, Texture and Blowout

Hair dryers are one of the most underrated yet heavily relied on beauty tools out there. Those who swear by them may use them at least a couple times a week — if not every day — as part of a foundational beauty routine. Since bad hair days can significantly impact our mood (in fact, there’s real science connecting how we feel to how well we take care of ourselves), it’s a good idea to replace any outdated hair dryers you own with the best hair dryers on the market today. Not only can older models feel weighty and take forever to dry hair, but they can also cause unnecessary damage to locks. “Blow drying your hair should be quick and fun,” says Alex Osorio, a stylist at Sally Hershberger NoMad. “I hear complaints that dryers are too heavy, and what should be a fun thing to do is instead a battle when you’re just trying to do your own hair.” “Using a really good blow dryer will allow you to dry your hair quickly, without overheating different sections which can cause heat damage with dry

According to Craig, this marks his last “Bond” film. De Armas and Seydoux both stunned in custom Louis Vuitton creations. Her hair was in a short bob with bangs and she opted for a more natural makeup look. Lynch looke

Beauty YouTuber Mel Thompson, 35, Has Died

Beauty influencer Mel Thompson died on Sunday. Thompson, 35, was a makeup artist with a growing online audience on Instagram and YouTube, where her channel amassed 170,000 subscribers. An Instagram post shared via Thompson’s account confirmed her death. The cause of death was not immediately clear. “We lost a beautiful person,” the caption, which appears to have been written by Thompson’s husband Puffin, reads. “I’ve had to answer so many texts of people just checking in on her without even knowing of her passing. It’s great to see how loved she was. And she loved all you right back.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mel (@mel.thomp) “She was such a pillar for our family,” the caption reads. “The kids would talk to her non stop [sic] and she was constantly talking with them and trying to help them with their stuff. The 16 Best Lip Glosses for a Gorgeous, Gleaming Pout

Like many other beauty trends that have come a long way since the early Aughts (we’re looking at you, brows!), lip gloss has made major progress. No longer the sticky, heavy formulas of yesteryear, you don’t have to worry about your hair getting stuck in your lip gloss anymore. The best lip glosses have gotten a major upgrade, pampering your pucker with hydrating ingredients while delivering high shine. “Originally, glossy lips were created on film by the actors continually licking their lips,” says Lori Taylor Davis, Global Pro Lead Artist, Smashbox Cosmetics. “Modern formulas are longer wearing, pigment dense, non-tacky, and some plump and condition as well. The modern gloss has conditioning ingredients that add to the health of the lips over time.” Swiping on a lip gloss is an easy way to instantly glow up your entire face. Glossy lips look fuller, helping you fake a more pillowy pout. “Everyone should have a lip gloss in their bag because it’s the easiest way to amp up your look, e

The 22 Best Hand Creams and Lotions for Dry, Cracked Skin

Hands endure a lot of daily stress. They suffer a constant barrage of washing and disinfecting with harsh and drying formulas, and are constantly being exposed to the sun. That’s where the best hand lotions and creams enter the scene. “Hand creams are designed to restore that essential moisture, nourish skin and seal in all that hydration and nourishment, often while helping to soothe irritation and help heal cracks,” says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Geeta Yadav. The base purpose of hand cream is nourishment, but the best hand creams can multitask. Depending on the reason for your hand cream search, you can discover a cream or lotion that can heal winter-worn skin, protect with SPF coverage or even reverse signs of aging with retinol– and niacinamide-infused options. Even without the inclusion of targeted ingredients, hand creams can help keep skin looking more youthful. “Hands tend to age as quickly as the face does, as they are exposed to the same elements, including harmful UV

Antonelli Diamonds Launches E-Commerce Site

Antonelli Diamonds is a purpose-driven brand with a philanthropic focus on helping cancer victims, especially children. Founded by Casey Antonelli, the brand has been conducting private sales for some time, and this week has launched an e-commerce site. Here, Antonelli shares insights about the company’s mission, what was behind its founding and the organizations the company supports. WWD: What was the impetus behind launching Antonelli Diamonds? Casey Antonelli: It all started with a bike ride. I was 16 years old when I first signed up for the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), a cycling event that raises money for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. My parents bought me a Cannondale, Tiffany blue, of course, and we trained all summer long. I didn’t love it, but I kept getting on the bike and pushing the pedals. Something deep down made me follow through with the commitment. A few hours into the 192-mile journey we took a right turn on Cherry Street. Adorned with balloons, signs, music and bubbles —

The 24 Best Skin Care Tools to Achieve a Post-Facial Glow At Home

As the tech and beauty worlds continue to innovate, the increasing hype surrounding at-home skin care tools and devices has soared. Previously considered ineffective and costly gimmicks, at-home devices have matured over the years — with powerful gadgets and treatments like LED lights and microcurrent tools that were once reserved for doctors now available to the masses. Yet, don’t expect skincare magic with these; at-home tools still won’t provide the same results as an in-office procedure, but the benefits are undeniable. “At-home skincare tools are an excellent way to maintain your skin’s health and appearance and target specific concerns,” says New York City dermatologist Dr. Dendy Engelman, who adds that regularly incorporating tools into your routine will “help prevent signs of aging and boost your skin’s health” both in the short and long term. And according to Los Angeles-based cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Simon Ourian, these skin care tools are about to get even more sophisticat

The 25 Best Under-Eye Patches to De-Puff and Brighten Dark Circles

The delicate under-eye area is the thinnest and most sensitive skin on your face. There’s also a multitude of issues that commonly pop up there. Some of us struggle with dark circles and heavy bags. Others can’t get rid of puffiness, no matter how hard we try. Then, there’s the concern of fine lines and wrinkles. Sometimes they’re all rolled together, and it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what the cause is. According to Beverly Hills based Board-Certified dermatologist Ava Shamban, there are many factors that contribute to these issues, including one’s complexion type and how prevalent veins appear on the face. She also notes how much sleep a person gets, how healthy their diet is and even genetics play a role in these concerns. No matter the cause, the best under-eye patches are designed to help. They’ve been around for years, but recently, it seems like every beauty brand has been launching their own take. Each claim to de-puff, brighten and tighten, but how effective are they and are th

The 10 Best Dermaplaning Tools to Use at Home

Once solely an in-office procedure, dermaplaning at home is now easier than ever. This particular form of facial exfoliation involves a small surgical blade, but it’s less daunting than it sounds. “Dermaplaning uses a sterilized surgical scalpel to gently shave the surface of the skin and remove dead cells, oil, bacteria, and peach fuzz hairs,” says dermatologist Dr. Dendy Engelman. Along with revealing smoother skin and reducing the appearance of acne scars, it can also help maximize the benefits of your other skincare products, boost glow, and diminish the look of fine lines. Makeup artists also love the treatment because it creates a “smooth surface for application,” says dermatologist Dr. Ava Shamban. While you can reap all of these benefits from a single treatment, dermatologists recommend closely following expert guidelines when dermaplaning at home. “If done correctly, it should be painless,” says Dr. Engelman. “However, if you perform the treatment incorrectly, you could risk i

The Best Beauty Advent Calendars to Gift This Holiday Season

There’s truly no better holiday gift for a beauty lover than an advent calendar stocked with cosmetics. No matter how old you are, opening up a new tiny door every day to reveal a present will always be just as exciting as when you were a kid (though back then you were definitely collecting chocolates, but we digress). Whether you opt for a skincare, makeup or fragrance-themed beauty advent calendar (or a mix of everything), you’re ultimately treating your lucky recipient to an opportunity to play with new products — ones they might not have tried otherwise. The variety of beauty advent calendars is really what’s most alluring about these fabulous gift sets. The greater the number of surprises inside, the greater the odds your loved one will discover at least a few things they adore. Another perk is that if you added up the retail price of each item, it would surely exceed the price of the advent calendar — and who doesn’t love a beauty bargain? Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, havi

Will Young Consumers be the Most Credit Savvy Generation?

According to a new consumer survey conducted by Alliance Data, both Generation Z and Millennials are 10 times more likely to be interested in learning about credit than any other generation. While in part this can be attributed to younger consumers just starting financial journeys, Valerie Greer, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Alliance Data, said it also shows the group’s determination to be financially responsible. Currently, Alliance Data’s findings showed that 27 percent of Gen Z’s and Millennial’s overall credit knowledge is “good but not great.” Nearly 30 percent of Gen Z told the company they felt they didn’t have a good understanding of credit at all and 10 percent said they would describe themselves as being “clueless” when it comes to credit. “Gen Z and younger Millennials are just starting out and do not have access to the variety of payment types available to other generations, but they are becoming more and more savvy and eager to understand and ed

As Confidence Drops, Consumers Are Also Showing Constraint

Greg Petro, chief executive officer of First Insight Inc., told WWD that data is pointing to “spending restraint” in the future — and it follows a pattern he’s not seen since right before the Great Recession. Petro said during that time, women shoppers were in tune with changes in market conditions, and had suggested concerns regarding future spending right before the bubble burst. Now, amid disruptions across the entire supply chain, he’s seeing the same trends again. “What’s concerning to me is when you look at the stats and numbers of COVID-19 breakouts across the United States and the death mortality rate as well as the number of vaccinated people along with those that have gotten COVID-19, it’s all generally pointing in the right direction [compared to early pandemic numbers]. So why is she so concerned? Why are consumers concerned about shopping and going out and doing things?” Petro said. Petro believes female shoppers are better connected to their social networks. And when they

WWD spoke to New York-based board-certified dermatologist Dr. Kavita Mariwalla to find out what people should look for when it comes to sheet masks, how they help and what concerns they address. First off, she says that they should be thought of as a “little boost” to your regular skincare routine. “Depending on what the material is that the mask is made of, it can calm the skin or it can help drive ingredients into the skin,” explains Mariwalla. “Moisture and occlusion always help make ingredients absorb into the skin better and that is essentially what all sheet masks do.” Mariwalla also explained that they can definitely help with moisture, especially when used regularly. That said, many of the b

The 10 Best Electric Shavers for Women

If you’ve ever used a disposable razor, you know from experience these drugstore tools can only take you so far. In terms of delivering a silky-smooth finish, their quality and bathroom shelf-life is limited. And while manual razors guarantee a close shave, putting the blade to the skin (especially when said blade becomes dull) puts you at a greater risk for nicks and cuts. Luckily, there are alternative hair removal methods (besides stealing his razor), like waxing, lasering, or, keeping within the DIY family by switching over to an electric shaver. Powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, the best electric shavers for women use perforated foil blades that are smooth on the outside and sharp on the inside. By creating a dual-blade effect, these devices allow the hair to become more exposed so you can remove it quickly and deeply from the root, thus delaying hair regrowth and prolonging the time in between your shaves. According to NYC-based dermatologist Dr. Hadley King, there a

The 20 Best Winter Nail Colors to Elevate Your Manicure

When you’re ready to switch up your winter manicure, it’s tempting to resort to the standards like poinsettia reds and glittering metallics that tend to define the season. But according to mani experts, the best winter nail colors for 2021 may not be quite what you think. “Conventional wisdom says go-to colors for winter are burgundy or navy, but my favorite winter colors are gray, deep slate blue, deep mustard and pewter,” says Shani Evans, a New York City-based nail technician who’s an artist at Paintbox and instructor at the American Beauty Institute. Gray, explains Evans, is more of an “umbrella” color than a singular hue. It’s a versatile shade with more depth than meets the eye, making it a must-have for winter manicures. The right gray works with any ensemble, from everyday loungewear to a boardroom-ready business suit. “There are grays as dark as a thundercloud and as light as a robin’s feather,” Evans says. “I love a dark, pigmented slate gray with either a blue or violet unde

The 15 Best Flat Irons for Every Hair Type

Anyone who knows how to really wield a blow-dryer can get their hair pretty straight with that alone. But when you want super sleek, shiny strands, a flat iron is your best friend. They’re a lot easier than struggling with a dyer and round brush to get the perfect blowout, saving you loads of time and effort. The best flat irons aren’t just for straightening, though — the surprisingly versatile tool can be used for everything from creating flips to S-waves, beachy waves and even curling. Plus, thanks to ionization, flat irons majorly cut down on frizz, leaving smooth, glossy hair behind. But as flat irons have come long way over the years, picking one out isn’t so simple. Even professional hair stylists have trouble choosing their favorite, because every hair straightener has its strengths. “Asking a hairstylist about her favorite flat iron is like asking her to pick a favorite child,” says Ashanti Lation, celebrity stylist and CEO of VIP Luxury Hair Care. Every hair type and style req

The 9 Best Bath Bombs to Help You Get Your Zen On

Baths are the ideal way to unwind and disconnect after a long and chaotic day. When it comes to clocking out, there’s nothing better than silencing your phone, pouring a generous glass of wine, applying a hydrating face mask and sinking into a steaming hot bath. While relaxing bubble bath products and detoxifying bath oils can make a great addition to the occasion, an aromatherapy bath bomb will really make your time in the tub feel extra special. If you’re new to the colorful, effervescent spheres, they can be quite euphoric. Each is unique, made with mood-enhancing, therapeutic essential oils, but their benefits often go beyond the sensorial. Many contain skin-nourishing, plant-based ingredients like shea butter or coconut oil to keep your skin dewy for hours — meaning you might not even need to use a lotion afterwards. Lush bath bombs top our list of Instagram-worthy buys, but there are plenty of options on the market made with cool visual elements like rare dried flowers, neon colo

The 14 Best Lighted Makeup Mirrors That Are Worth Every Penny

Mirrors date as far back as 8,000 years ago when the people of Anatolia (modern-day Turkey) polished obsidian to a glossy finish so they could admire their reflections. Anatolians would most likely gaze in astonishment at modern mirrors, particularly those of the light-up variety. Mirrors produced even 10 years ago hardly hold a candle to the 2021 versions, in which super-powered lights, voice recognition features and iPhone charging capabilities are now the norm. These high-tech makeup mirrors aren’t just for gawking at, though. They make everyday tasks like executing a bold eye look, plucking a stray eyebrow hair or simply brightening a dark vanity easier when you don’t have good access to daylight — or what experts call that perfectly white, diffused natural light. “Lighting is instrumental to creating the best makeup results,” says Nick Lujan, Global Director of Artistry and Education at Kevyn Aucoin. However, “good lighting and mirrors are never guaranteed,” says editorial makeup

In a survey of U.S. businesses, product review platform provider Digital.com found that the pandemic has transformed offices across the country with many remaining permanently closed. “Not long after the COVID-19 pandemic sent employees scattering to home offices and remote locations so companies could continue operating while minimizing exposure to the deadly virus, speculation exploded about what this temporary change would mean for the future of how Americans work,” authors of the report said. “Now, the future is here, and it appears that some things have changed for good.” A survey of 1,250 businesses that had on-site employees prior to the pandemic found that many now have “a significant portion” of workers working remotely while closing “some or all of their office space, primarily as a result of employees wanting to continue working remotely.” The survey revealed that 69 percent of businesses in the U.S. have “permanently closed some or all of their office spaces since March 202

A Closer Look at Lil Nas X’s Three Versace Outfits at the Met Gala

It wouldn’t be Lil Nas X without an outfit change or two. The rapper, fresh off his Video of the Year win at the MTV VMAs Sunday, stepped onto the Met Gala carpet in not one, not two, but three custom outfits by Versace. Lil Nas X arrived in a flowing, regal-inspired cloak before shedding it to show off a gold, gilded armor like that of a knight, then removing that to reveal a sparkling, gold formfitting bodysuit. Lil Nas X wore a custom, embellished all-lavender look by the Italian fashion house at the awards show Sunday. The 22-year-old artist isn’t the first to do numerous outfit changes at the coveted fundraising benefit. In 2019, Lady Gaga showed off four different looks by Brandon Maxwell. 44 Met Gala Red Carpet Looks You Forgot Happened

Seventy-three years of the Met Gala have produced some of the most iconic red carpet fashion moments of all time. Think: Rihanna in that yellow Guo Pei cape with its endless fur-lined train back in 2015 and Lady Gaga’s four outfit changes in 2019. Some Met Gala looks, however, haven’t quite stuck in the cultural lexicon. Take for instance, Chloë Sevigny’s casual brown jacket paired with a beige midi skirt for the “In Style: Celebrating 50 Years of the Costume Institute” exhibit in 1998. Granted, Sevigny sported this look in the earlier days of the Met Gala, when there was no physical red carpet and the event itself was less of a media spectacle. In 2005, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen made their Met Gala debut in romantic dresses that are a stark difference form the cerebral looks we see the CFDA Award-winning designers wear today. How far to take the theme is always a quandary for Met Gala guests. In 2004, model Amber Valletta went all-in on the “Dan

55 Unforgettable Met Gala Red Carpet Looks

Each year the Met Gala produces red carpet moments that have resonated with spectators for years, with celebrities like Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez and others regularly taking the year’s theme head-on with their high-fashion looks. The 2021 Met Gala is finally taking place tonight in a smaller setting after being postponed this spring due to the ongoing pandemic. This year’s theme is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” — which dives into the history of American fashion — and the event is co-chaired by Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka. While this year’s theme may result in less flashy red carpet looks, Met Galas of years past have been known for creating viral looks that have become some celebrities’ most iconic fashion moments of their careers. Take the 2019 Met Gala, where Lady Gaga used the year’s camp theme to put on her own performance on the red carpet, which was complete with four outfit changes courtesy of Brandon Maxwell. The prev
