The North Face and Griff Bring the Outerwear Inside to Casino

On Thursday night, the coat check inside Lower East Side restaurant Casino was unusually quiet for wintertime. But the crowd had a good reason to keep their outerwear on: The North Face and campaign face Griff were hosting a dinner in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the brand’s Mountain jacket. “I was touring America when this project came up and they were like, ‘come to Denver.’ I’d just toured there, so it was nice to come back, see where they’re based. It was super chill and easy,” said Griff of getting to work with the outerwear brand. For Thursday’s dinner, Griff was dressed in the same red-hued jacket she wears in the campaign, paired with a Cecilie Bahnsen dress and a bag from the designer’s collaboration with The North Face, which will launch this spring. Griff has entered “writing mode” after wrapping up her latest tour. “I just toured all over the U.S. for the last year, and now it’s time to hibernate again and get inspired,” said the British musician. “I find a lot of...

The 10 Best Nude Lipsticks That Look Natural on All Skin Tones, Tested and Reviewed

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Nude lipsticks are full of dichotomies: They can be glam or low-key, unnoticeable or show-stopping, matte or glossy. But they can also have room for individuality: The right nude lipstick will be inherently flattering to your skin tone, and ranging from rich browns to pale pink lipsticks (and every tone in between). After all, nude lipstick is highly personal; your perfect shade is based on your skin tone and undertones, natural lip color, and preference for textures and finishes. The under-the-radar shade family is increasingly favored by celebrities and their makeup artists for red carpet glam: We’ve seen everyone from Billie Eilish to Cynthia Erivo wear a neutral lip look teamed with statement eyeshadow or simply bare skin. Meanwhile, brands like L’Oréal Paris, Charlotte Tilbury, and Mac Cosmetics — who re-released its iconic, ’90s-favorite Fleshpot an...

Seventeen’s Wonwoo Shares His Behind-the-scenes Photo Diary During London Fashion Week

Earlier this week, Seventeen group member Wonwoo made his fashion week debut at the Burberry show during London Fashion Week. Dressed in a full Burberry look, the Korean singer took in a few of the city’s iconic sights en route to the show, which was held at the Tate Britain. Wonwoo began his day with a cup of tea before heading out to admire the Tower Bridge, River Thames and nature’s early springtime gestures. “It was refreshing to see some green after a long winter in [South] Korea,” the singer noted, snapping a photo of a flowering shrub near the river. His Burberry trenchcoat proved its versatility in London’s rainy weather. Ahead of the Burberry show, Wonwoo caught up with other VIP front row guests including Jung Eun-chae and Bright. Afterward, he headed backstage to congratulate designer Daniel Lee on his new collection. “Had a great time at my first fashion week,” the singer reflected. “The show was amazing and I loved the collection. Thank you Burberry and Daniel Lee for havi...

Aminah Nieves Gets Ready for Season Two of ‘1923’ in Monot

“It was a blur,” says Aminah Nieves in the days following the Season Two premiere of her hit show “1923.” The actress is already back home near Gary, Ind., where she grew up, and still processing the big night. For the night, she worked with stylist Amanda Lim on a look that included a black dress by Monot, shoes by Manc and jewelry by Ohiri, and hair by Sabrina Porsche and makeup by Pircilla Pae.  Lim put together a spread of looks for Nieves to try on, and the decision came together with the help of “1923” hairstylist Tim Muir, a fellow Gary native with whom Nieves is close.  “We were going through things and I honestly wasn’t going to try on the dress. I was not. And [Muir] was like, ‘no, you need to try that on,’” Nieves recalls. “And when we tried it on, it was like, ‘oh my god, this is it. This is the dress.’” Aminah Nieves gets ready for the Season Two premiere of “1923.” The premiere showed the second season’s first episode, which Nieves took in alongside her family an...

The 14 Best Drugstore Shampoos for All Hair Types, Tested and Reviewed

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Drugstore shampoos — and affordable beauty finds in general — are having a resurgence. And to that we say: It’s about time. The best drugstore shampoos, after all, like drugstore foundations or mascaras, don’t sacrifice quality despite being highly affordable. In fact, many top drugstore shampoos come from reputable brands we all know and love — think Dove or L’Oréal — while targeting various hair types and needs. Unconvinced? This past December, mega-influencer Alix Earle took to TikTok to share that she’s ditching high-end shampoo formulations in favor of something much simpler: Pantene shampoo, which she credits for soft-as-silk hair. She waxed poetic about her high school days of healthy hair that was powered by simple hair products, prompting a flood of followers to echo the sentiment that drugstore shampoos have never done them wrong (unlike ove...

The Best Curly Hair Products to Enhance Your Natural Curls, Tested on Types 2 to 4 Hair

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Curls can be a challenge to style, and they come by that reputation honestly: A rainy day or the introduction of one new product can throw the whole look off. No two curls, even on the same head, are identical, so selecting the very best curly hair products for your pattern and preferred style will involve trial and error. “What’s interesting about curls is that there’s an inconsistency a lot of times,” says Larry Sims, celebrity hairstylist and co-founder of Flawless by Gabrielle Union. “They can be so in between — straight here, wavy there, curly here — and going with the natural texture, it looks fuller a lot of times and just healthier. Don’t be afraid to lean into natural hair, because a lot of people, for the longest, tried to fight what they were born with.” Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil Size: 2 fl ozKey ingredien...

Nicole Brydon Bloom Breaks Out in ‘Paradise,’ Discusses Acting Journey and Embracing Complex Roles

When Nicole Brydon Bloom first received the character breakdown for Jane, her role on the show “Paradise,” there was no sign she was anything other than a sweet, straightforward young professional.  “It just said she was one of the younger Secret Service agents and was a little bit naive, kind of coming up in that position. And it said that she was sweet and liked her job, and I was like, ‘I think I could probably swing that,’” Bloom says. In her first callback, the Hulu show’s creator Dan Fogelman (behind hits such as “This Is Us”) hinted to her that there may be more to Jane than initially meets the eye.  “He wanted me to play one of the scenes a little bit differently, which sort of caught me off guard,” Bloom says. “He was like, ‘could we just hypothetically try this character as if she’s a psychopath?’ I was super surprised and didn’t really know what to do with that.” Luckily, Bloom is a psychology fan — she studied it in college — and was more than willing to play along...

Ebony Obsidian Discusses Role in ‘The Six Triple Eight’ and Bringing Forgotten WWII Story to Light

“At first I had a lot of shame,” Ebony Obsidian says of learning about her new movie “The Six Triple Eight.” “Kerry Washington and I spoke about this at the beginning of this process. We both had a moment of like, ‘oh, wait a minute. Why don’t I, of all people, know about this?’” Obsidian continues. “I think especially as storytellers and women of color and [being] in the positions that we are, it did feel a bit odd to not know about this. And very quickly that turned into, ‘no, but none of us do.’ And it’s coming at the time that it’s coming in the way that it’s coming for a reason, because maybe we wouldn’t have known about it still, even if it was celebrated all those years, maybe we still wouldn’t know about it in this big and colorful and vibrant way that we do today.” The movie, directed and written by Tyler Perry and available on Netflix, tells the true story of the only Women’s Army Corps unit of color stationed overseas during World War II. Washington plays Major Charity Adams...

Artist Tanya Ling, a Former Louis Vuitton, Fendi Illustrator, Turns to the Abstract With Latest Exhibition

Tanya Ling’s lines are running wild. The long, slim, twisting lines that once depicted Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Stefano Pilati-clad ladies — and even shaped themselves into a Fendi Peekaboo bag — now flow into abstract oil paintings, linear drawings and sculptures made from salt dough and grouting. Ling, who for decades worked as a fashion illustrator for the big fashion and beauty houses, has turned from figurative, commercial work to abstract painting and sculpture, with her latest work on show in a converted Victorian stable block at Lyndsey Ingram in Mayfair. “Incitatus,” which runs until March 14, springs from Ling’s lifelong love of horses, and is hot, blurry and breathless. It could not be farther from the wide-eyed, statuesque beauties that Ling once conjured for the big brands. In an interview at the show space, Ling says she was eager to move from illustration to painting and from figurative to abstract work. She has been making the shift over the past decade, and says it fe...

Julia Stiles Makes Directorial Debut With Heartfelt Film ‘Wish You Were Here’

Julia Stiles is pretty sure she mentioned here and there that she was interested in directing, but how exactly Gabby Kono-Abdy came to know that remains a bit of a mystery. In the midst of the pandemic Stiles received an Instagram message from Kono-Abdy saying she’d heard Stiles was interested in directing and wondered if she’d considered the book “Wish You Were Here.” “I think she was a fan of my work as an actress,” Stiles recalls. “She was 25 at the time I think, and she just is one of those remarkable young women who was very determined and had a vision and was like, ‘I think you should look into this.’” Soon a formal letter from Kono-Abdy, herself an actress, landed with Stiles’ agents, saying how much she believed in her to direct. As soon as she read the book, Stiles knew she had finally found her directorial debut.  “I was immediately struck by it,” says Stiles, who also adapted the screenplay. “I had been looking for a project to direct for a while, and couldn’t find the r...

Hydro Flask’s New Mini Water Bottle Is Actually an Adorable Bag Charm, According to Fashion Insiders

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Bag charm enthusiasts, assemble. Hydro Flask — a water bottle brand founded in 2009, which peaked during the colloquial “VSCO girl era” years back but continues to hold the public’s attention with on-trend colorways and sustainability efforts — just released its tiniest bottle yet, which can be clipped to your bag for many on-the-go hydration moments. Unlike, say, a Stanley tumbler‘s high-volume allure and weighty presence, the Hydro Flask Micro Hydro‘s power lies in its barely there proportions. Clocking in at just 6.7 ounces of volume, the bottle is a nod to minimalism and the “underconsumption core” trend taking over TikTok these days. That’s not to say that the Micro Hydro’s fun-sized nature makes it shun Hydro Flask’s signature features. After all, it can keep beverages of choice hot or cold for up to seven hours; features double-wall vacuum...

He’d known the designer casually over the years but hadn’t officially met until recently. While in Italy this past year for his mom’s 50th, he wore a full suit by Synder, and day to day has several of his sweaters in the mix.  “It’s Todd mixed with a little more streetwear,” he said of his style. “I’ve honestly got five sweaters from Todd that I’m just swapping out recently.” When it came to working together for the show, Snyder sent over his inspirations and Calderone got to work, going through his music library and picking what he thought f...

She was dressed by the brand head to toe, of course, including a signature animal-shaped bag.  “Is it a sheep or is it a goat? That’s the question,” she said. “I think it’s up to the viewer to decide.” The designer’s clothes could easily fit into the “Severance” world, she mused.  “There’s a natural fit there, right? The American suiting and the office uniform,” she said.  Escola also had an animal handbag in tow.  “It’s a big goose,” they said. As for the contents? “It’s...

Isabella Massenet Sees Fashion Through Music

Isabella Massenet first realized she knew how to read a room when, as a kid, she was tasked with the music selection in the car.   “I learned what it means to play a song at a certain time,” she says over coffee at Sant Ambroeus in early February. “I really think that that’s where I got my itch to want to play something and for it to enhance a feeling.” Cut to lockdown in 2020 and Massenet, who was studying at UCLA at the time, came back home to London to be with her family. With all the downtime, she started learning how to properly DJ. When the pandemic eased, her mom, Net-a-porter founder Natalie Massenet, had moved to New York, and Isabella Massenet decided to transfer to New York University.  “I was a bit shy about it initially, and then I just started being like, ‘Hey, I’m a DJ, does anyone want someone to play?’” she says. Her first big event was a Louis Vuitton event in London that her friend, Princess Olympia of Greece, was hosting. “From that point on, it sort o...

Dior Brings Paris to Dallas With Café Dior by Dominique Crenn

Dior is bringing a taste of Paris to Dallas with the opening of Café Dior by Dominique Crenn.  Opening on Feb. 22 at the brand’s Highland Park Village boutique in Dallas, the restaurant will feature the culinary vision of the Michelin-starred chef Dominique Crenn, who set about trying to bring to life what Mr. Christian Dior would envision if he were to open a café today.  Crenn, whose San Francisco restaurant Atelier Crenn has been awarded three Michelin stars, was drawn to the project as a way to put her own spin on the legacy of Dior — much like how the house does with clothes, she says.  “The beauty in the way that they let their designer express themselves to tell their story — that’s what attracted me to them because they wanted to work with us and they want us to tell the Dior story through the Dominique Crenn eye,” she says.  “I was inspired by all the designs of Maison Dior from 1947 to now, from Monsieur Dior to John Galliano to Maria Grazia Chiuri to Yves ...

They’re reviving; they’re doing this refreshing thing right now. It’s really special.” Further down the bench was musicians Audrey Nuna and PinkPantheress, and actors Sophie Thatcher and Rhenzy Feliz. “This is my only New York Fashion Week show, because I’m doing press,” said Thatcher, who stars in the recently released sci-fi horror film “Companion.” “It’s great. I’m really proud of it,” she added of the film. “It’s funny — you don’t realize that half the job is doing press. I haven’t been able to act in a while. But I’m really proud of that one.”   PinkPantheress, Sophie Thatcher, Rhenzy Feliz, Toni Breidinger an...

The singer, who mingled with Ice Spice, the Haim sisters, and more during the game, stacked up on sparkly jewelry, including trending pieces featuring ruby stones to nod to the Kansas City Chiefs’ colors. The “Fortnight” singer kept her game day outfit simple, wearing jean shorts, a white Alaïa bodysuit, a Saint Laurent blazer and Paris Texas over-the-knee boots. This outfit formula created a canvas for Swift’s accessories to do the talking: The 14-time Grammy winner carried a cherry red Givenchy handbag and dripped in diamonds and rubies. Swift, notably, co-signed a jewelry trend that’s garnered over five million posts on TikTok by wearing a dainty diamond hand chain by Logan Hollowell. Hairstylist Devante Turnbull, who regularly works with the five-time Grammy Award winner as well as stars like Kelly Rowland, prepped her curly tresses with K18 hair products — and we have all the details. “We’ve been using K18 in all of our looks for the last year,” explains Turnbull, who has overseen Sza’s hair transformation from inky black to cotton candy pink to chocolate. “For the Super Bowl we went for a deep red voluminous textured look with length. Staying true to her big hair look while spicing it up with some color.” Because K18 hair products focus on restoring damage from chemical treatments, color, and everyday heat damage, the brand’s lineup is a great choice for those who mix up their hair styles f...

“Best night ever,” Natasha Bedingfield declared, shortly after taking the stage at Christian Siriano’s afterparty at the Times Square Edition. The singer, who attended the designer’s show earlier in the day, had just performed two of her hit songs. “The cool thing that’s happened for me is that a younger age group is really into my songs again, which is really fun,” said Bedingfield, who’s seen a resurgence in popularity for her 2004 hit “Unwritten” in the past year. “Twenty years ago, when I first [started my career], there were some designers who wouldn’t dress me because they felt that I was plus size,” Bedingfield added, showing off her Siriano suit with white lapel and buttons and mesh details. “Christian, from Day One, just dresses everyone and makes them look their absolute best. And I think that’s why he’s so loved — apart from the fact that he’s an amazing person, too.” “I dressed Natasha for the Grammys maybe 10 years ago. And we’ve been friends ever since,” said Siriano. “Sh...
