In the gold-hued Plaza Hotel ballroom, beneath dazzling chandeliers, an army of philanthropists, New York power players and everyday do-gooders will unite for a shared mission: to end elder hunger in the city. For the past four decades, the Citymeals on Wheels Power Lunch has been the organization’s largest annual fundraiser to gather the necessary resources to support its continued meal services and companionship for New York’s elderly population. Anyone interested in supporting this tremendously worthy cause is invited to the Plaza on November 19. The reception is at 11:30 a.m.; lunch is at noon. Last year, the organization provided more than 2.2 million meals to 22,000 older New Yorkers. Since its founding, the organization has delivered over 72 million meals in total and has committed to eliminating elder hunger in New York City by 2040. By partnering with older adult centers and community-based organizations in all five boroughs, Citymeals is supporting New York’s most vulnerable residents.
