Tec Italy Totale Shampoo Recalled Due to Potential Contamination With Harmful Bacteria

Henkel Capital S.A. de C.V., a Mexican subsidiary of the German consumer goods giant Henkel, has initiated a voluntary recall of 1,068 units of its Tec Italy Shampoo Totale due to potential contamination with Klebsiella oxytoca bacteria. Announced on Tuesday, the recall affects products distributed in the United States through distributors in New York and California, with possible further distribution to other states. The recalled Tec Italy brand Totale Shampoo is packaged in a 33.81 fl. oz./1 L, green plastic bottle marked with Lot # 1G27542266 on the side of the bottle. The UPC code is 7501438375850. Henkel discovered the contamination during routine microbiological analyses, which revealed the presence of Klebsiella oxytoca in some bottles. According to the CDC, exposure to this bacteria can cause pneumonia, bloodstream infections, wound or surgical site infections and meningitis, with potentially more severe reactions in individuals with compromised immune systems.
