The Beaches Reflect on a Breakout Year, From Madison Square Garden to ‘Off Campus’

In true New York fashion, The Beaches were so busy running around the city on the day of their Madison Square Garden performance that the first time they took the stage was in front of a sold-out crowd. “It was such a hectic day. We weren’t able to get a soundcheck, so we had to raw dog the show,” recalls Jordan Miller, the band’s lead vocalist, in the days following the show. “But having the first moment that we were actually in the arena be right before we went on stage was so thrilling. I didn’t want the show to end. It felt like we belonged up there.” “Raw dogging” MSG might just be the band’s most rock ‘n’ roll move yet. The Toronto-based quartet — sisters Jordan Miller and Kylie Miller, Leandra Earl and Eliza Enman-McDaniel — are currently on tour opening for former One Directioner Louis Tomlinson. The tour finds the band in the midst of a rapid-fire year. In March, they were named Group of the Year at the Juno Awards for the third consecutive year, the first all-women band to do so.
