Princess Charlene of Monaco went monochrome in Elie Saab with dashes of floral inspiration at the Fourth Princess of Monaco Cup golf tournament on Tuesday in Monaco. Accompanied by her husband of 14 years, Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene wore a bespoke, sleeveless floral embroidered tulle midi dress. The look featured a rounded neckline and some playful sheer elements on the bodice of the frock. Per the fashion label’s description of the dress, the look upon which Princess Charlene’s midi frock is based echoes the “romantic elegance of 1950s Italian cinema.” Following World War II, Italy’s film industry took cues from Hollywood, elevating glamour and sweeping love stories in several features. Sophia Loren was among the biggest stars of the time to help popularize this particular Italian film movement.
