From the Archive: Looking Back at Sly Stone’s Wedding and Concert at Madison Square Garden

Before fans and media figures ruminated over whether or not Taylor Swift’s wedding ceremony would actually take place at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, another venerated singer and entertainer beat the “Opalite” songstress to the punch. The wedding was billed as “a happening,” per WWD, and featured guests who “beat tambourines, blew silver whistles and howled, ‘Do it again, man! More!'” The affair, featuring high-profile guests like designer Diane von Furstenberg and singer Eddie Kendricks, featured the bride and groom clad in sequined designs courtesy of American couturier Halston that embodied that quintessential ’70s glam and excess.
