First lady Jill Biden’s outfit for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration Monday was a nod to bipartisan unity. Joining her husband, President Joe Biden, to welcome the incoming administration, Dr. Biden opted for a monochromatic Ralph Lauren ensemble in a bold purple shade. The color often symbolizes a bipartisan union in American politics. “[Purple] represents a blending and coming together of the red and blue, which are the two colors that represent each of the major political parties in the U.S.,” Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, told WWD during Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021.
