Variety celebrated the release of its “Hitmakers” issue on Saturday, saluting its cover stars with a Los Angeles brunch. The magazine’s annual list recognizes the biggest songs of the year, which in 2023 includes tunes penned by Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter and Boygenius. Carpenter was handed the Rising Artist Award, while Boygenius — an indie rock troupe comprising Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker — took home the honor for Group of the Year. Billie Eilish opted for one of Gen Z’s favorite trends — baggy jeans — pairing them with a Dodgers bomber jacket and black sneakers. The celebrated songstress, who won the award for Film Song of the Year, also added on a printed beanie and chunky tinted frames. Boygenius Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker at Variety’s Hitmakers brunch on Dec. 2 in Los Angeles. Boygenius opted for a black and white color scheme.
