Think Valentine’s Day this year will involve the same old, same old symbols of romance — like dozens of red roses, chocolates housed in heart-shaped boxes, and fluffy teddy bears? Think again. One of our editors’ favorite online floral delivery destinations, 1-800-Flowers, just cut the ribbon on its Valentine’s Day 2026 trends report… and what you’ll find inside is not at all what you’d expect. The most surprising reveal of all? The fact that black (not pink, white, or even purple) is the colorway of choice for rose purchases right about now, with 1-800-Flowers sharing that “searches for black roses jumped 50 percent compared to the yearly average.” We’d like to think of this as a sign that consumers are starting to think outside the box when it comes to their holiday shopping habits.
